A quick guide to battling water damage

water damage

The most common disaster to occur in any home is water damage- and, in most cases, water damage brings mold into the home. There are several preventive measures you can take to avoid flooding and mold growth and we’re here to help you out! Today, we’ve put together this quick guide to preventing and avoiding water damage.

Water Damage Prevention

First and foremost, keep a close eye on your water bill. If it seems to be unusually high and you know you haven't been using excessive amounts of water, you most likely have a leak somewhere in your home. That’s when it’s time to call in The Steam Team for an inspection and see if we can’t get those leaks fixed before flooding occurs.

Keep roof gutters clean. Cleaning your gutters every few months is essential. If gutters become clogged then backed up water on the roof could eventually leak through and cause water damage in your home.

Get a drain snake. Many people dump chemicals down their drains to keep them clear. While keeping drains clear is important, you may be unaware that these chemicals are causing damage to your pipes until it’s too late, and a leak has occurred. Using a drain snake is a safer method.

Mold Growth Prevention

All that mold needs to grow is water and darkness. To prevent mold growth after water damage, make sure to remove any water you find as quickly as possible. If carpet has been soaked due to flooding, use high-powered fans to dry it out. Sanitize all flooring with a steam cleaner and sanitize walls with soap and water.
